Thud Bay to Boyd Bay

0900hrs: Departed Thud Bay heading for Aurukun.

1000hrs: Port engine failed. Throttled down then ran rough.  On inspection the starboard engine was running hot with little raw water coming out of the exhaust.

1200hrs: Cleared the fuel blockage in the port fuel tank and replaced the original raw water pump on the starboard engine.  Also blew out the starboard through hole again to clear a blockage.

Engines repaired we resumed our motoring towards Aurukun, but with no wind and the next week of no wind forecast we turned back towards Boyd Bay.

1400hrs: Arrived in Boyd Bay.  Great anchorage.

Weipa to Thud Bay

0900hrs:  Departed Weipa after four days of reprovisioning and repairs on an adjacent monohull.

Wind 20ktsn from the SE.  Wind swung to the west after Boyd boint.

Once we rounded Thud point the wind was right on the nose so we dropped the sails and started the motors.  After an hour the starboard motor began to squeak which got worse over time.

1430hrs: Dropped the anchor and pulled then cooling system apart.  The raw water pump pulley had become loose and had done some damage to the center hole.  I replaced the water pump and we decided to stay overnight.

Jantz Point to Weipa

0630hrs:  Departed  Jantz Point and head out to a safer distance of the coast before a day tacking hard on the wind in a 15 to 20kt Southeasterly.

1300hrs: Starboard engine got hot so I shut it down.

1400hrs:  Entered the Jackson Channel and anchored as we could make no way into the wind with only one engine. Pulled the cooling system apart. blew out all pipes--no problems. Replaced the water pump impeller--it looked ok and once all reassembled, started the motor up--still no water out the exhaust.  Only one thing left to check--the throughhole and sea cock.  Sea water came through, but not as much as one might expect.  Fired up the compressor and used my air blower tool to blast air back through the saltwater inlet.  A lot more water came into the boat after that.  Pipe back on and bingo, water in the exhaust and a cool motor.

1520hrs:  Arrived in Weipa after a long day.
