Well, we had an emergency on board a few days ago when somehow the switch between our 24vdc and 12vdc was selected accidentally. The result was that while we were motoring between Svsnsons Beach and Leekes Beach the boat filled with phosgene gas. Worse still, after we shut everything down the starboard motor throttle control seized making manoeuvring in a small creek very difficult.
Inspections, once we were in Leekes Creek, showed that a negative battery cable had overheated, melted and eventually burned through. As the throttle cable was beside the battery cable the throttle morse cable melted and seized the cable.
Boat Bits in NSW to the rescue and a new Morse cable is now in place.
