Great Keppel Island Walks and Repairs

Now that we are living onboard at Great Keppel Island (GKI) we are getting more work done ready for our planned cruising around Australia.  We have also had an opportunity to learn a great deal more about GKI.
Currently, we anchored off Svendsens Beach sheltering from high south easterly winds.
Today, we installed another LED light strip above our bed and the fridge and freezer.
Note the switch beside the bedside table (top left).

To give you a bit of an idea of our wanderings at GKI check out our latest video.

Fridge and Freezer Installed

After a year of managing with just an Engel fridge sitting on the cabin floor, we have now installed a 60l Engel freezer and an 80l fridge installed on slides.  All running off 24vdc.
Still, a shelf to go in above the fridge & freezer.

Fire Onboard

Well, we had an emergency on board a few days ago when somehow the switch between our 24vdc and 12vdc was selected accidentally.  The result was that while we were motoring between Svsnsons Beach and Leekes Beach the boat filled with phosgene gas.  Worse still, after we shut everything down the starboard motor throttle control seized making manoeuvring in a small creek very difficult.
Inspections, once we were in Leekes Creek, showed that a negative battery cable had overheated, melted and eventually burned through.  As the throttle cable was beside the battery cable the throttle morse cable melted and seized the cable.

Boat Bits in NSW to the rescue and a new Morse cable is now in place.
